January 5 2026 the Kitimat council approved moving forward with a grant application for a comprehensive master plan for the development of the Kitimat airpark (CBW2).No approvals were received at that time for the grant applications regarding maintenance equipment purchase or an above ground aviation fuel dispensing system. The aviation fueling station was placed into the districts capital expenditures plan to have any engineering questions answered before next B.C.AAP grant intake. Kitimat council stated that budget constraints made it tough for them to approve this spending and support the grant applications.
The Flying club ask council to reconsider the application for the maintenance equipment as it is critical to our ability to maintain the airpark in a safe and efficient manner for all aviation users. At a special council meeting on January 14 2026 Kitimat council agreed to support the grant application for the maintenance equipment with the Flying Club being responsible for any cost overages from the Provincial Grant (B.C.AAP).
January 16 2026 grant applications for the master plan and the maintenance equipment were submitted to B.C.AAP for their consideration for funding.
Successful grant applications are helping us enhance services and facilities. These developments directly support emergency services, commercial aviation, and general aviation, reinforcing the airpark's vital role in the region for everyone from local businesses to potential members / volunteers.
